A good course trumps a bad spot on the calendar
PALM HARBOR, Fla. (AP) — The Valspar Championship is the one week in the Florida swing where it makes sense to take a week off.
Some players can’t stay away from Innisbrook, long regarded as among the best tournament courses in the Sunshine State. That explains why the field is unusually strong for such an awkward spot on the calendar.
Henrik Stenson is playing for the first time. Adam Scott returns. Justin Rose, Jordan Spieth and Jim Furyk give the Valspar Championship five players from the top 10 in the world ranking.
Scott says the Copperhead course is the best in Florida and compares it favorably with Riviera on the West Coast.
The tournament gets started on Thursday.
