PSG ousts Chelsea on away goals with 10 men to reach QFs
LONDON (AP) — Thiago Silva sent 10-man Paris Saint-Germain into the Champions League quarterfinals on away goals after a 2-2 draw at Chelsea in extra time of a fiery and ill-disciplined game on Wednesday.
Although PSG had striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic sent off in the 31st minute for a challenge on Oscar, the visitors still provided the greater threat at Stamford Bridge.
Gary Cahill had given Chelsea the lead in the 81st minute — after a 1-1 draw in the first leg — but former Chelsea player David Luiz headed PSG level to send the game into extra time.
Eden Hazard restored Chelsea’s lead from a penalty, but Thiago Silva headed in PSG’s equalizer in the 114th minute.
PSG advanced at Chelsea’s expense a year after losing a quarterfinal to the London club.
